The communicable disease control program is designed for early detection of diseases that may spread to others.  When a person is found to have a disease that can cause others to become ill the Health Department works to stop the spread of the disease.  Other services include the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

There are many types of communicable diseases; examples are salmonella, tuberculosis, West Nile virus, rabies, LaCrosse encephalitis, Influenza, and SARS, etc.  Communicable diseases are usually spread through food, water and air.
